Nidec logo

A Plus Electric Motor Repair, Inc. repairs and rewinds Nidec motors at our shop in St. Charles, Illinois. Nidec is the world’s largest electric motor manufacturer, and its industrial brands are installed in pumping stations, HVAC systems, process plants and machinery across the Midwest. We repair Nidec AC and DC motors up to 650 HP for customers throughout northern Illinois, northwest Indiana and southern Wisconsin.

The Brands Under Nidec

Many motors that started under other names are now Nidec products. Nidec acquired Emerson’s motor business in 2010, which brought the US MOTORS brand into Nidec Motor Corporation. In 2017 Nidec added Leroy-Somer motors and alternators and Control Techniques drives, also from Emerson. In 2019 it acquired Embraco refrigeration compressors.

That means a Nidec job that comes into our shop might carry a US MOTORS, Leroy-Somer, Emerson or Nidec nameplate. We repair all of them, along with the Control Techniques drives that often control them.

Nidec Equipment We Repair

Our Nidec Repair Process

  1. Incoming inspection. We record the nameplate data and the motor’s condition when it arrives.
  2. Testing. Ground testing, surge comparison and core loss testing identify winding and core problems.
  3. Teardown and failure analysis. We inspect bearings, shaft, rotor, stator and housings to find the cause of failure, not just the symptom.
  4. Written quote. You receive a repair quote, and a replacement quote when a new Nidec motor or equivalent makes more sense.
  5. Repair. Rewinding, bearing replacement, shaft and housing machining, and brake work as required.
  6. Balancing and final testing before the motor is returned.

Common Reasons Nidec Motors Come In

What to Send for a Quote

A photo of the nameplate speeds up quoting. On Nidec and US MOTORS motors, the model number and the ID or catalog number identify the exact design. Include horsepower, voltage, frame and enclosure if the nameplate is damaged, a short description of the failure, and how quickly you need the motor back.
