Century and the Regal Rexnord Family
Century was originally an A.O. Smith motor brand. Regal Beloit acquired A.O. Smith’s Electrical Products Company in 2011, and Century is now part of Regal Rexnord alongside Leeson and Fasco. You will still see A.O. Smith on many older Century nameplates, and we repair those too.
Century Equipment We Repair
- Pump motors, including jet pump and pool and spa motors
- HVAC blower, condenser fan and air handler motors
- General purpose single phase and three phase motors
- Older A.O. Smith Century motors
- Capacitor start and permanent split capacitor motors
Our Century Repair Process
- Incoming inspection. We record the nameplate data and the motor’s condition when it arrives.
- Testing. Ground testing, surge comparison and core loss testing identify winding and core problems.
- Teardown and failure analysis. We inspect bearings, shaft, rotor, stator and housings to find the cause of failure, not just the symptom.
- Written quote. You receive a repair quote, and a replacement quote when a new Century motor or equivalent makes more sense.
- Repair. Rewinding, bearing replacement, shaft and housing machining, and brake work as required.
- Balancing and final testing before the motor is returned.
Common Reasons Century Motors Come In
- Failed start or run capacitors and centrifugal switches
- Bearing failure and noise
- Water intrusion on pump motors
- Winding failure from overheating or voltage problems
- Seized shafts from corrosion
What to Send for a Quote
A photo of the nameplate speeds up quoting. On Century and A.O. Smith motors, the model number identifies the exact design. Include horsepower, voltage, frame and rotation if the nameplate is damaged, and how quickly you need the motor back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it worth repairing a small Century motor?
Often it is cheaper to replace a small Century motor than to rewind it. Simple fixes like capacitors, switches and bearings can still be worth doing. We will tell you which makes sense and quote a replacement when it does.
Is Century the same as A.O. Smith?
Century was an A.O. Smith brand until 2011, when Regal Beloit bought A.O. Smith’s motor business. Older motors may carry either name.
