What to send us

Send a photo of the nameplate showing the complete type designation and serial number. SEW identifies its units by serial number, so this is the most useful single piece of information. Also include a short description of the failure and how quickly you need the unit back.

06 / FAQ

Straight answers on SEW-Eurodrive

Q1Can you repair just the gear unit, or just the motor?

Either one, or both together. If you are not sure which half failed, send the complete gearmotor and we will find out.

Q2What do you need to quote an SEW-Eurodrive gearmotor?

The full type designation from the nameplate, the ratio, the mounting position and the brake voltage if it has a brake. A photo of both the gear unit and motor nameplates covers it.

Q3Will it come back filled for our mounting position?

We fill it for the mounting position on the nameplate. If the unit has been remounted differently, tell us so the oil level and breather are right for how it actually sits.

Q4Our motors keep failing. Can you tell us why?

Usually the motor is pointing at something upstream. The most common culprits are incoming power problems, like voltage imbalance, spikes and drive-related shaft currents, and a harsh environment: heat, moisture, dust and washdown chemicals. Misalignment and bearing trouble round out the list. We tear every motor down, find what actually took it out, and tell you, so the replacement does not go the same way.
