07 / FAQ

Straight answers on Kollmorgen

Q1Do we need to send the drive or cables too?

Usually not. Send the motor with its model number and the fault you are seeing. If the drive or cable is suspect, we can look at those too.

Q2Will the feedback be aligned when the motor comes back?

Yes. The encoder or resolver is realigned to the motor before it ships, so it is ready to run with your drive.

Q3How do we stop coolant from killing our servo motors?

Most coolant failures come in through worn shaft seals and connectors. Keep connectors pointed down with drip loops on cables, replace seals before they leak, and guard the motor from direct spray.

Q4How do you decide between repair and replacement?

It mostly comes down to two numbers: what the repair costs and how long a new one takes to arrive. Sometimes the repair costs more than a new motor, but if the OEM is quoting four to five weeks, repair still gets your line running sooner. We lay out both options with real prices and lead times so you can make the call. Call (630) 283-3569 and we will quote it.
